Olivet Schools and Community Come Together In the Battle Creek Enquirer (May 24, 2013) you will read a story about how the Olivet Community Schools' has been affected again by Cancer. Our small community made up of some of the most compassionate and dedicated people I have ever met, have come together again with the "Will to Live" organization and the "Wishing Away Cancer Ceremony of Lanterns", re-scheduled for June 14 at 8:00 p.m. at Olivet High School practice soccer fields. The Will to Live organization is helping six families in our community (currently five are school employees) with miscellaneous expenses like gasoline gift cards for the trips for chemotherapy. Other activities and events happening are t-shirt sales, bracelet sales, people providing meals to the families via mealtrain.com and an upcoming dinner is being planned to assist one family. If you would like to help in some way, contact Sallie Spencer at spences@olivetschools.org or call 269-924-9017. These families will need our ongoing love and support and here at Olivet Community Schools we plan to give it. |
"WILL TO LIVE" LANTERN LAUNCH FRIDAY JUNE 14, 2014 GATHERING BEGINS AT 8:00 P.M. LAUNCH AT DARK |
After another tragedy this week (school employee had a house fire), our staff pulled together, gave support again and were reminded by Superintendent Judd of the following..."These past few months have truly been a test of our strength and unity as a staff and community. Although it has been difficult, I feel as if we are proving on a daily basis that we are not ordinary. As we have dedicated our lives to the education of our students, let's please remember that we are also teaching them how to deal with life. As our students (and children) watch how we handle these struggles and difficulties, they develop resiliency, they believe they can influence and even control outcomes in their lives through effort, patience, faith, kindness, generosity, and a positive attitude. Most importantly though, they will develop a sense of compassion and humanity for others, Thank you for modeling these traits so well."T. Montague |

Michigan Farm to School Program |

Karla Love, Olivet Food Service Supervisor has made it her mission to provide healthier meals to the students at Olivet Community Schools long before state requirement changes and the popularity of the national movement to promote healthier eating and healthier lifestyles. After Karla attended a Local Food Bank Conference and met Duane Morelan, owner of Veges from the Ledges in Grand Ledge, MI, Karla has been purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables for school breakfast and lunches to serve to our students.Thank you Karla and the Food Service staff for your pro-active support and making school meals nutritious, healthy and interesting for students to enjoy.Below are a few links that you might be interested in too. Thanks to Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems (formerly the CS Mott Group for Sustainable Food Systems) for promoting Michigan Farm to School purchasing and to Duane Morelan for providing such quality food products to our schools.
